Wind Bands have been around for over 200+ years and we continue on the tradition at Parkhill JH by fostering a love of music and passion for team work. Band is more than just instrument and music. It is a form of communication and a family of musicians, working together to create something magical!

WHEN CAN I
JOIN BAND?
In Richardson ISD, all 5th grade students have the option of choosing Band as an elective in 6th grade. In the spring semester of your 5th grade year, all 5th graders are invited to Parkhill for a concert and demonstration of Band and all the instruments we offer. After this concert, you will be invited to sign up for our Instrument Fitting, date to be determined soon! Here, you will find out which instrument is BEST for YOU!!
WHAT INSTRUMENTS ARE A PART OF BAND?
We offer all of the eleven instruments. The instruments are: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. We know that this is a lot of instruments. Don't worry, we are here to help you understand more about the instruments and choose your BEST fit!
DOES BAND TAKE UP A LOT OF TIME?
NO! Band is ONE class period during your 6th grade year. Band occurs during the school day for 45 minutes and is taught by either a Junior High or High School band director. This will be your first taste of Junior High and you will LOVE it! We have 3 concerts per year, a few rehearsals that take place after school, and 3 masterclasses that take place after school.
WHO CAN JOIN THE BAND?
Any 5th grade student at BWE, BFE, PWE, or RAC who wants to work hard, make new friends, and create music can become a member of the Raider Band. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that our students can participate in and we simply want everyone who wants to be a part of the band to join the family and experience making music together!
